Mission and Purpose
The Hu Zhao Foundation was established to commemorate the great contributions that Hu Yaobang and Zhao Ziyang made to China in the process of China's modernization in the 20th century. It is also to commemorate and continue the efforts of Hu Yaobang and Zhao Ziyang to promote China's constitutional transformation.The purpose of the Hu Zhao Foundation is to "Remember Hu Zhao and promote democracy."

Founders of the Hu Zhao Foundation
The Hu Zhao Foundation was initiated by Mr. Chen Yizi, the former director of the China Institute of Economic System Reform and the executive chairman of the American Center for Contemporary China Studies. The founders of the foundation also include Su Shaozhi, Qiu Hongda, Gao Wenqian, Xiong Yuanjian, Wang Shujun, Wang Dan, Lan Zheng, Liu Qing, Li Jinjin, Li Hengqing, Zhang Amei, Hu Ping, Feng Congde and Xia Ming.

Organizational structure
From January 2006 to January 2011, Chen Yizi served as the first chairman of the board of directors of the Hu Zhao Foundation and the president of the foundation. From February 2011 to March 2022, Mr. Li Jinjin served as the second chairman and president. In March 2022, President Li Jinjin died unfortunately, and the foundation made a major adjustment. There are currently 8 council members, the list is as follows: Xiong Yuanjian, Hu Ping, Li Hengqing, Deng Yuwen, Zhang Boshu, Ye Ning, Yi Gai and Zhang Amei. Zhang Amei is the president, Hu Ping, Deng Yuwen, Li Hengqing and Xiong Yuanjian, are the vice presidents, Yi Gai is the secretary-general, and Li Hengqing and Yi Gai are responsible for financial supervision.
